Live from the Kendall County Fair in Boerne – 8/31 – Come on Out and Join in the Fun!

This weekend join me LIVE at the Kendall County Fair … It’s going to be 3 days of family friendly fun and I’m excited to share some of the fun with you! In fact, I will be manning (or is that womaning?) the KSLR booth at the Fair starting Thursday night and then all the way through Sunday at 10pm. While there, I’ll do my show live from the booth at my regular time on Saturday.

I’m actually not sure what the show is going to look like quite yet, but what I do know is this:

cache_3736091904During the first ½ hour I’ll be introducing you to Cindy Magsig. Cindy was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas where her parents were ministers of a bilingual congregation. She grew up singing in church, and later became a worship leader both in Indiana and Colorado. In 2007, she became a member of Community Bible Church in San Antonio, Texas and was one of many featured soloists.  She wrote Sing For Joy, the title song for CBC’s 2009 worship CD and continued to sing on various worship projects produced by CBC over the years, with the latest song Waiting Here For You on their 2012 CD: He Loves Us.

Today, she serves as director of Surrendered Heart Worship Ministries, but she also has a unique ministry to PKs (pastor’s kids). When we met a few weeks ago, I was struck by her personal story of growing up in a fishbowl and how that affected her spiritual life. I don’t know the stats, but I do know a lot of kids who grow up as PKs walk away from the faith because of it. So my question was, “how can we help the PKs in our own congregations turn toward God instead of away from Him?” That’s what we’ll be talking about with Cindy…and I can’t wait to share her with you all!

Then the second half of the show is up for grabs…I’ll introduce you to Steve Gross, Pastor of the Cowboy Church at the fairgrounds and I’ll be giving you the lowdown on the Arms of Hope fundraiser 5k Walk Run WM-5K-250x150-060713tccalled Faith Runs Deep coming up on September 7 at Community Bible Church…then I’m going to start asking folks how God has been faithful in their life…I know I have a BUNCH of books to give away, so whether you’re at the fair or listening in online or on the radio, you’ll have a chance to win some great books IF you can briefly share how God has been faithful…I’m anticipating some awesome stories…so don’t miss it! And if you’re local and don’t have plans for the weekend, come on down and say “Howdy!” I’d love to meet you in person!fair

Recap on 8/24 – Healing and Authenticity / Being Jesus with Skin On / Labor Day at the Kendall County Fair

Here’s the broadcast in case you missed it!

chaddock-robinWhat an amazing group of guests…at the very last minute, the Lord changed the direction of my first interview and instead of talking about Robin Chaddock’s book about the Power of Words, He decided He wanted me to focus on Robin’s healing journey and quest for authenticity, which was awesome. Her blog address, by the way, since I forgot to mention it until a listener texted me and asked me to, (my bad!) is www.soulmassagemusings.weebly.com.

Then I had the privilege of introducing you to Megan Legacy, Executive Director of the San Antonio Christian Hope Resource Center…what an amazing story of her coming from a difficult childhood and how God used that to give her a heart for the homeless and hurting. The ministry is definitely one worth supporting, either financially or as a volunteer. For more information visit www.sachrc.org.

And last up was the president of the Kendall County Fair Association, Rex Pierce, sharing all the goings on coming up this next Labor Day weekend at the Fair in Boerne. I was smitten with his description of the Mutton Busting event and even have some pictures to share…I cannot WAIT to see this event where little kids ride sheep until they fall off….LOVE IT! This will actually be my very first rodeo, so I am super excited that I get to be there in the KSLR booth for  the whole fair, as well as broadcasting live from there next Saturday. Check out www.kcfa.org for the schedule and details of the fair…gonna be good…come on down, I’d love to meet you in person!

The picture above are my in-studio guests and my answer to prayer, Linsey Allen…she’s my new administrative assistant for the radio show and I cannot tell you how blessed I am to have some help with this work God has given me!

And then, during the second half of the show I’m excited to introduce you to Megan Legacy. Megan is the Executive Director of the San Antonio Christian Hope Resource Center. CHRC is a Christ-focused Westside resource center 1469e4eempowering individuals and families in crisis to become sustainable through individualized holistic services, accountability and grace. The story of Christian Hope Resource Center (CHRC) began more than 25 years ago with two 141_chrc_logowomen who wanted to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors by gathering and distributing food and clothing to the poor. Years later, they began partnering with local churches to effectively share resources and eventually established the Christian Hope Resource Center in 1999. By in February of 2001, CHRC became a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. With the help of the San Antonio community, a local bar was transformed into a vibrant and welcoming community center, offering hope to the neediest community members in San Antonio. Ten years later, CHRC was serving over 4,000 families per month and provided a variety of services in its community center through partnerships with area nonprofit agencies.

When I met with Megan a few months ago, I was amazed at the stories she shared about how the Lord is working through this ministry and allowing the body of Christ to be as I call it, “Jesus with Skin On” to so many hurting people, so I’m excited to introduce her and this vibrant ministry to you.

Megan will also be joining me to continue the conversation after the interview at our regular hang-out, El Jarro’s Mexican Restaurant. Plan to join us there at 12:30 for a no-host lunch…I would love to meet you!

mary and allisonIt was an amazing hour with two incredible guests. Mary DeMuth shared the keys to allowing Jesus to heal us when we’ve been hurt by other Christians, and Allison gave us a glimpse into the Christian fiction world and the impact it has on lives.

It was another great show!  www.marydemuth.com   www.allisonpittman.com

8/17 Show – Christians Hurting Christians with Mary DeMuth, and Local Author Allison Pittman

Join us on Saturday, August 17 as we discuss a unique topic with author, Mary DeMuth. Why People Leave Church: Other Church Members Hurt Them. Here’s an Innovative Way Through the Pain.

Much is being written on the blogosphere about why the next generation of churchgoers are leaving the church. Many cite a lack of depth, but another reason may be the culprit: Christians hurting Christians. There needs to be a proactive way to process the pain other Christians inflict on us.

The Wall Around Your Heart (Jpeg Format)Author and speaker Mary DeMuth provides a way through in her 15th book, The Wall Around Your Heart: How Jesus Heals You When Others Hurt You. By walking the reader through the Lord’s Prayer, DeMuth gives Christians a roadmap for true, genuine, and lasting healing from the aftermath of painful relationships—particularly those in the church.

DeMuth speaks to the pain that we inflict upon and how that pain makes us want to protect ourselves by walling off our hearts.  As readers engage in The Wall Around Your Heart, they find great freedom to acknowledge the depth of their relational suffering, but they also discover a “pathway through the devastation”–the pathway of prayer.

“It’s the type of prayer that Jesus modeled, lived, breathed.  Of all the people on this earth who had cause to wall off His heart against those who hurt Him (that would be the entire world), He had cause,” writes DeMuth. “Yet He engaged Himself in the very world that put Him to death.  Jesus is our example of openhearted living, of exhibiting wild love…”

If you’ve been hurt, particularly by other Christians, The Wall Around Your Heart will offer specific biblical instruction, validation, and encouragement as you take steps toward healing. marydemuth-headshot-squareDeMuth writes, “My heart for you in this journey we’ll be taking together is this: be loved. Be wildly and audaciously loved. Give what you receive.  See others as Jesus sees you.  Settle your worth.  Rest in God’s compassion.  And as you choose to believe His favor, your life won’t be able to help spilling love, compassion, and forgiveness to everyone you meet.”

Dare to join this wall-abolishing adventure to an openhearted life.

allison pitmanDuring the second half of the show, my in studio guest will be local writer and mentor to many aspiring authors, Allison Pittman. Author of 11 books, her most recent book, All for a Song, is set in the roaring 20’s. In it Pittman skillfully paints the complete picture of this bold female character who is willing to take risks in order to discover the life that she truly is meant to live, so we’re going to zero in on some of those thoughts during our time together.

Plan to join Allison and I at El Jarro’s after the show to continue the conversation off the air! The show airs from 11AM to Noon CST on AM 630 KSLR or streaming live at http://saleminteractivemedia.com/ListenLive/Player/KSLRAM.

Allison and I will arrive at El Jarro’s at 12:30 for a no host lunch. I look forward to meeting you there!

Recap on 8/10 – Healing from Childhood Sexual Abuse with Gary Roe

If you missed the show, here’s the podcast:

What an absolutely amazing show…so full of truth and clarity and answers for those struggling with the fallout of childhood sexual abuse. Gary Roe, author, speaker, and survivor shared from his book “Not Quite Healed: 40 Answers for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse” and provided profound helps for those who share his pain.

photo(23)

Gary shared the common struggles of survivors, the lies they believe, and the truth needed to combat those lies. He knows because he has been there, and God has helped him process in a way that touches others in deep and significant ways.

I am in awe of the way the Lord is using his and Cec Murphey’s story of abuse and healing…it’s time to shine the light on this tabu subject and chase the darkness away!

Spread the Word – 8/10 Show on Answers for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

healed cvr 3.inddI know you may be thinking…I thought this was a women’s show? Well, it is (even though I have growing numbers of men who listen in as well). And here’s why I believe this is a subject we cannot avoid discussing.

I’ve asked Gary Roe to join me this Saturday for the 8/10 edition of Always Faithful, because he is one of the most credible authors I know on the topic. He is a survivor, and a servant-leader who is committed to helping others heal.

As you’ll see below, the stats show 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18, but further down you’ll see that boys/men tend NOT to report their victimization. So what does that mean to you, a woman? That means chances are high that you are either married to, a sister to, a cousin to, an in-law to, a daughter of, or a friend of an adult male who was victimized as a boy. Some of them may not even be aware of the abuse, since the memories often do not surface until later in life.

So, I want to invite you to join Gary and I this Saturday from 11AM to Noon CST on AM 630 KSLR or streaming live on the web at www.kslr.com. And please, help me pass the word. Share this post on your social networks and tell your friends to listen in. We, as women, need to understand how this kind of wounding affects the men in our lives, and know how to protect the boys in our care.

After the show Gary and I will be “continuing the conversation off the air” at El Jarro’s Mexican Restaurant at 281 and Bitters…I hope you will join us!

Gary speaks and writes from more than 30 years of ministry, including campus ministry, church-planting in Japan, discipleship-training in Hawaii, and three pastorates in Texas and Washington. He now serves as a hospice chaplain, writer, and speaker in central Texas. He is the co-author (with New York Times Best-seller Cecil Murphey) of Saying Goodbye: Facing the Loss of a Loved One (Harvest House, 2013) and Not Quite Healed: 40 Truths for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (Kregel, 2013). He is also the author of Good Grief, a free web-based grief recovery course available through his website. He writes inspirational columns for several Texas newspapers and also contributes regularly to Shattering the Silence, Cecil Murphey’s blog ministry for sexual abuse survivors. Gary has three adopted daughters from Colombia who are also abuse survivors, and absolutely loves 906422_10151609534521337_1371974228_obeing a dad.

How prevalent is child sexual abuse?

  • Some CDC research has estimated that approximately 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls are sexually abused before the age of 18.
  • Other governmental research has estimated that approximately 300,000 children are abused every year in the United States.
  • However, accurate statistics on the prevalence of sexual abuse of children and adolescents are difficult to collect because it is vastly underreported and there are differing definitions of what constitutes sexual abuse.
  • Boys (and later, men) tend not to report their victimization, which may affect statistics. Some men even feel societal pressure to be proud of early sexual activity regardless of whether it was unwanted.
  • Boys are more likely than girls to be abused outside of the family.
  • Most mental health and child protection professionals agree that child sexual abuse is not uncommon and is a serious problem in the United States.

Recap on 8/3 Show – A Response to Fifty Shades of Grey / LAVISH

Here’s the show from today in case you missed it.

What a powerful show…my guests completely amazed me with answers to questions I didn’t even know I had.

12_ShannonEthridge_300px_RGB-150x150Shannon Ethridge, best selling author of the “Every Woman’s Battle” shared her most recent book, “The Fantasy Fallacy,” which refutes the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon. The most stunning point she made was that “sexual fantasies are no more than the brain’s attempt to heal itself.” (for more on Shannon’s ministry, visit www.shannonethridge.com)

Kayla Moilanen sharing that 95% of all women in the sex trade were sexually abused as children just made total sense to me, and filled me with a new compassion197757_10100841979373635_1195331943_n2 for these women. (for more on Kayla’s ministry, visit www.lavishgirls.org)

Take a listen…it’s, I believe, the best show yet.
