Recap 9/28 Show with Debbie Taylor Williams – Plan A Woman in a Plan B World

If you missed today’s show, here’s a link to the podcast:

Well, this was one of the most adventurous shows I’ve had to date. Initially, my guest for the 2nd half of the show, Debbie Taylor Williams, was scheduled to arrive at 11:30 just in time to go on for the last half hour. Only, unbeknownst to me or her, God had another plan. Last night He impressed upon her heart to get to the station early, before the show started. When she arrived at 10:45 I was pleasantly surprised, but didn’t think much else about it. That is, until my first guest, Jill Kelly, didn’t call in at the designated time.

I immediately shifted into high gear and decided to start Debbie’s interview right away, thinking if Jill called in late, I would just move her to the 2nd half of the show. As I’m interviewing Debbie I’m frantically looking on my phone for a back up number for Jill…thinking how to juggle my 3rd guest, Phil Waldrip, the founder of the Women of Joy conference and slotted to call in at the end of my interview with Jill.

Long story short, somehow wires got crossed and by the time Jill called in we were wrapping up the show, so praise God, Debbie had so much great content to share, it was an awesome show, regardless!

Wow, this LIVE RADIO thing is getting to really be an exciting journey, and I’m learning to “go with the flow”… but how FAITHFUL was God that He worked it out for Debbie to arrive early, and bail me out when I needed it! GO GOD!!!!

Saturday 9/28 – Women of Joy Speaker Jill Kelly & Founder of Hill Country Ministries, Debbie Taylor Williams

I am so excited to bring you two incredible guests this Saturday, September 28. During the first half of the show I’ll be introducing you to one of the San Antonio Women of Joy speaker team, Jill Kelly. Jill is the wife of retired Buffalo Bills Quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly and the mother of three children: Erin, Hunter (February 14, 1997 – August 5, 2005), and Camryn.

After their infant son Hunter was diagnosed with a fatal disease called Krabbe Leukodystrophy, Jim and Jill founded the Hunter’s Hope Foundation. As Chairwoman of Hunter’s Hope, Jill helps leukodystrophy children and their families by raising awareness and research funds for these devastating diseases, and advocating for Universal Newborn Screening. Jill and Jim have appeared on television shows including “Oprah,” “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” The Discovery Channel, ESPN and Fox Sports. They have been featured in magazines such as USA Today, McCall’s Magazine, Reader’s Digest and People. Jill is the author of Without a Word: How a Boy’s Unspoken Love Changed Everything (FaithWords) and a popular speaker.

Then during my second half hour, I’m delighted to have in studio with me Debbie Taylor Williams.

Debbie’s passion for Christ is evident in her energetic style and insightful personality. Having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 29, Debbie brings spiritual maturity and biblical depth to her audiences. Her spiritual beauty and willingness to be led by God bring a relevant message to women of all ages, backgrounds and denominations. Debbie is an authentic servant of Christ with a focus to encourage, challenge and inspire her audiences to become women of passion, purpose and prayer.

Debbie’s passionate focus to help others know God’s life-changing power has led her to author numerous Bible studies, teach and lead retreats and conferences and serve as keynote speaker at events throughout the United States.

She has been a television guest on Life Today with James and Betty Robison, Daystar, The Harvest Show, Family Net’s Every Day With Marcus and Lisa, At Home Live! with Chuck and Jeni, God Answers Prayer, Friends and Neighbors with Kim Gravel, Atlanta Live, and San Antonio’s TBN.

Before establishing Hill Country Ministries in 1999, Debbie served as the Teaching Leader for Bible Study Fellowship, where she led a class of 450 women. She later co-founded and taught Women’s Bible Study at her church involving more than 300 multi-denominational women.

In addition to Debbie being a keynote speaker, she has been a featured columnist for the Women Reaching Texas newsletter and has served as a guest panelist at the Women’s Leadership Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas. She is presently a religion columnist for the Kerrville Daily Times newspaper and has been featured in P31 magazine.

Debbie’s spiritual investment in others was acknowledged by her community when she was recognized as the 2000 Woman of the Year in Kerrville, Texas.

We will be giving away some of Jill Kelly’s books as well as 2 copies of Plan A Woman in a Plan B World, and Debbie will be joining me for lunch at El Jarro’s from 12:30 to 2:00 pm so we’d love to have you plan to join us!

Recap 9/14 “Learning to Grieve Well” with Hospice Chaplain and Author Gary Roe

In case you missed the show, here’s the link to the podcast:

What a delight it was to have Gary Roe back in the studio with me today. We talked extensively about his new book with New York Times bestselling author Cecil Murphey, Saying Goodbye: Facing the Loss of a Loved One.

IMG_0605[1]

There were so many common sense, practical tips given to help us prepare for the inevitable, and to be a blessing to our loved one, and appreciate the blessing they have been to us. The bittersweet aspects of losing a loved one can actually be embraced and appreciated, with the right tools. Tools that will help you keep your focus on Jesus and take healthy steps to leave nothing left unsaid, and take care of any unfinished business between the two of you. Oh and then there’s the importance of taking care of yourself, so you really can be a blessing to your loved one as you care for them during this stressful time.

saying goodbye

So many good points made…and such a good resource for everyone. After all, death is a part of life, and there’s no getting around experiencing the loss of a loved one (well, unless you go first!)…so you might as well get prepared to be a blessing and not a curse.

Saturday 9/14 – Learning to Grieve Well with Hospice Chaplain Gary Roe

gary and saying goodbye

Can’t wait to have my good friend back in the studio this next Saturday! This time the topic will be Learning to Grieve Well and we’ll be discussing his new book, co-authored with NYT bestselling author Cecil Murphey, Saying Goodbye: Facing the Loss of a Loved One.

Learning how to face death in a way that glorifies God is an important task for all women to accomplish, and tools that will help us learn as well as teach our children and other loved ones are vital. This resource is one of the best I’ve seen in over 20 years in the publishing business…compelling content, touching stories, lovely artwork, and practical tips on how to prepare for the loss of a loved one and how to grieve well. What has been a taboo subject in many families is brought into the light with hope and empathy. You can prepare to be a blessing to those you love….even if you aren’t facing the death of a loved one now, there’s no doubt you will someday…so don’t miss this show! And pass on this post to let others know!

11AM to Noon CST, 9/14/2013 on AM 630 KSLR, or streaming live on http://saleminteractivemedia.com/ListenLive/Player/KSLRAM.

And, as usual, we’ll continue the conversation after the show at El Jarro’s. Gary and I will arrive there at 12:30 and look forward to meeting you in person!

Recap 9/7 – The Power of Prayer & Tranform Your Home by Transforming Your Table

Here’s the podcast in case you missed the show!

IMG_3935abWow…what a power packed hour today’s show was. To hear both women share incredible stories of God’s faithfulness in answered prayer was so encouraging to me! Both Joan Courtney, President and Founder of Women’s Prayer International and the ultimate hospitality coach, Linda de la Garza, shared compelling stories of God answering prayer. We gave away 2 free tickets and t-shirts to the Women of Faith event coming up next month…they were donated just last night for the first 2 single mom callers…thank You, Lord!

For more information on each of my guests visit http://www.womensprayer.org and www.betterhomesanddaughters.com.

This Saturday 9/7 – Women’s Prayer Leader, Joan Courtney & the Ultimate Hospitality Coach, Linda de la Garza

I am so excited for this upcoming show! Can’t wait to introduce you, during the first half of the show, to Joan Bond Courtney and hear her stories of God’s faithfulness to answer prayer! Joan is the founder and president of Women’s Prayer International, a worldwide organization based here in San Antonio. A ministry committed to equipping and encouraging women to use the power of prayer to transform their families, neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, churches, cities, and nation. To pray for those in authority, for Christian organizations, for those we work with day to day, for God to not only work a spiritual awakening in us as individual women, but in our cities, our nation, and our world.  I look forward to introducing you to her and hearing more of her heart for just what God can accomplish through the prayers of His daughters.

joan and linda23

And then, during the second half, I am delighted to have my new friend Linda de la Garza. She is such a dynamo…I just love this girl! A San Antonio Living regular, and the ultimate hospitality coach, Linda De La Garza is a woman of passion, courage and empowerment. Her business, Better Homes and Daughters, is based on the idea of opening real communication – and for her that happens best around the table. According to Linda, whether it is in a board room, a conference room, or a dining room, the table is a place of power. “It is your communication station. It’s where people bare their heart and their dreams. It’s where you set the atmosphere for your home.  For families this is where they open up about what happened at school or at work.” Linda continues, “Yet in a world full of technology where we can easily access someone from the other side of the world, we have someone just across the table that is a world away. The table is a place of power, nurturing, healing, and refreshing.  A family that eats together has peace together.”

Listen in from 11am to Noon, CST on AM 630 KSLR or click here to listen to to live streaming online

And, if you’re in the San Antonio area, I invite you to join me with BOTH my in-studio guests at El Jarro’s from 12:30 to 2pm for a no-host lunch! I’d love to meet you in person, and you will enjoy both these sisters in Christ!

Recap 8/31 Loving Our Pastor’s Kids with Cindy Magsig / Live from Kendall County Fair

Here’s the podcast, in case you missed the show!

Having Cindy Magsig on was an absolute delight. Hard to believe that when we first met about a month ago she wasn’t sure how much of a story she really had to share. Because she grew up in a great home, as a preacher’s kid (PK) and didn’t experience abuse or trauma, Cindy thought that maybe she didn’t have anything to offer. Well, nothing could be further from the truth! As we continued to explore God’s faithfulness in her life, we zeroed in on the PK aspect and how growing up in a fishbowl had it’s challenges. We both began to see how the body of Christ really needs to be educated on how important it is for them to not only pray for their PKs but to love them unconditionally.

_MG_0027As Cindy shared on Saturday, the importance of not being judgmental and critical with those who are growing up in that proverbial “fishbowl” is of utmost importance. Since most PKs end up in the ministry, your prayers for them will have impact on countless lives.

So the question is, are you and your treatment of your PKs causing them to run TO God or AWAY from Him? That’s certainly something to ponder!

What a wonderful resource she was to our listening audience…great stuff! For more info from Cindy on this topic, visit www.pklife.org.

The rest of the show was a hodgepodge of how I’m a Texan by the Grace of God (as seen on my T-Shirt), an interview with the Queen’s Court, and an invitation to the Faith Runs Deep 5K Fun Run/Walk coming up this Saturday, 9/7 with a kick off time of 8am at CBC, which will raise money for Arms of Hope, an awesome ministry to disadvantaged children and single mother families. Lindsey and I will be participating, so hope you will come on out to that! Sign up here.

It was also a blessing to highlight new friends and vendors Texas Born & Bred (www.txbornandbred.com) since they donated the Texan by the Grace of God T-Shirt. And experiencing my first rodeo, mutton bustin’ and Cowboy Church was the highlight! It was quite the experience, live from the fair…will be writing more about it in days to come!
