Saturday 11/2 – The Mother in Law Factor with Deb DeArmond & Inspired Looks Ministries Founder Vern (Pinky) Hutcherson

I am SO excited to bring you this next show. I met Deb DeArmond at the AWSA (Advanced Writers & Speakers Association) event at the International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis. As I heard about her relationships with her “daughter-in-loves” and about her new book on the “in law” topic, I KNEW I had to introduce her to you!

“Related by Chance, Family by Choice: Transforming Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationships” – What does it take to create true family unity between moms and the women who marry their sons?

The caricatures are everywhere, the jokes are inexhaustible, and the stereotypes fill the screens. From Marie Barone (Everyone Loves Raymond) to Viola Fields (Monster-in-Law) to Internet sites and social media pages like ihatemyinlaws.com and a Facebook page for ihatemymotherinlaw there is no shortage of examples of the caustic relationships that can develop between the two women in a man’s life.

Deb DeArmond and her three daughters-in-law have conducted their own exhaustive research into the status of the women-in-law relationship. Their research, which incorporated online surveys, interviews, and discussions, included asking about the faith factor in the relationships they studied. Of the respondents, nearly 90 percent claimed they were Christians, and 79 percent said their faith was foundational and guided their actions and decisions. As discouraging as it may be, the numbers of those they surveyed who reported that their women-in-law relationships were “bad” were nearly identical to those in a survey conducted by a popular secular website that recorded no statistics on faith.

Beyond the statistics and their analysis, Deb brings to this book more than thirty years working with adults to improve communications and deal constructively with conflict. Aside from her research and her professional expertise, perhaps the most important asset Deb brings to this work is her own relationship with her three daughters-in-law that is so obviously and unusually positive that she—and they—are often asked to explain the secret of the relationships they share.

This practical and unapologetically scriptural book covers issues of personal perceptions, strained communication, the roles of sons and fathers in the relationship’s success, how to begin these relationships on the right foot, and the necessity of trust and love. Deb’s one motivating objective is to help women-in-law move from women who are simply related to strong and confident members of a truly spiritual family.

For 25+ years, Deb has worked in the field of learning and development. She has trained in corporate settings across the nation and around the world in areas of leadership, communication, conflict resolution and relationship building. In 1998, Deb opened her own practice, DeArmond & Associates, became a certified executive coach and

added this to her roster of skills and services available to clients.

Although she has been active in ministry throughout her life, God redirected Deb’s focus in 2011—to use these skills and abilities to minister to the body of Christ. She is co-founder of My Purpose Now, a website devoted to Christian women 50+ and also can be found on her website http://mypurposenow.org/

Deb is wife to her high school sweetheart who led her to Jesus 40 years ago. Mom to three incredible sons, three fab daughter-in-loves and Gigi to three perfect grandboys. But Jesus is her favorite, and the guys have learned to live with it. She considers her family to be an incredible gift from the Lord and spending time together doing life tops her list of favorites.

Recap 10/26 Sharron Cosby Comforting Those with Addicted Loved Ones & Jan Johnson, Breast Cancer Conqueror!

Here’s the podcast in case you missed the show…AWESOME stories of God’s great faithfulness!

Having Sharron Cosby share her journey with an addicted son, going through 15 years of struggles before God finally redeemed his life and began the recovery process…WOW. What an amazing story of God’s powerful redemption so that she could then write this book and comfort others with the same comfort she’d been comforted with. Awesome! If you know someone with an  addicted loved one, please pass on this post so they can hear about her book, “Praying for Your Addicted Loved One: 90 in 90″… what a resource for family members who are struggling with trusting God with their addicted loved one!

Then what a privilege it was to have KSLR’s own Jan Johnson in the studio to share her life as a PK (preacher’s kid), PW (pastor’s wife) and BCC (breast cancer conqueror!). We laughed and cried as she shared her amazing story of surrendering her plans and trusting God with her life. Such an inspiration!

Coming up Saturday 10/26 – Sharron Cosby, author of “Praying for Your Addicted Loved One” and Jan Johnson, Pastor’s Wife and Breast Cancer Conquerer

I am thrilled to be able to introduce you to two amazing women of God coming up on 10/26! From 11AM to Noon on AM 630 KSLR, streaming live on www.kslr.com or www.iheartradio.com or on the KSLR app on your phone, you will have the opportunity to listen to two amazing women who are proving God’s faithfulness!

During the first ½ hour I’ll be introducing you to my friend, Sharron Cosby, author of “Praying for Your Addicted Loved One: 90 in 90”. Her story, which unfolds throughout this 90 day devotional, is riveting. The highs, the lows, the defeats, the victories…all display a faithful God!

Let’s face it, watching someone you love self-destruct hurts.

Praying for Your Addicted Loved One: 90 in 90 provides ninety devotions of strength, hope, and encouragement to families coping with addiction. Realizing you’re not alone in your struggles brings comfort and confidence to face day-to-day challenges.

The overall message of Praying for Your Addicted Loved One conveys hope to families caught in the cycles of addiction. The various stages of the disease: abuse, recovery, and relapse, take their toll on families. Hopelessness grabs a family’s heart and wrings it out with each slip of clean or sober time. The verses in Jeremiah 30 and 31, the foundation of the book, offer promises of restoration and redemption.

90 in 90 reflects the 12 Step model of attending 90 meetings in 90 days. While your loved one attends meetings, you will read a daily devotional to lend spiritual support.

“Today I pray for other lost addicts to find the hope of recovery. I pray the families reading this book will continue to have hope that an addict—any addict—can stop using drugs and find a new way to live. If there is one thing I can say to family members it is, “Never quit fighting.” There is always hope. With hope, I, a once hopeless dope addict, am now a dope-less hope addict.”  ~Josh Cosby

Then during the second ½ hour I’ll have in studio with me KSLR’s own Jan Johnson. Jan is the Business Manager and assistant to the General Manager, a Pastor’s wife, and a breast cancer CONQUEROR! I am so excited to share her story with you and let you get to know her.

I’ll be giving away 2 copies of “Praying for Your Addicted Loved One”. And since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, my good friend, author, and breast cancer survivor Barb Boswell has donated a bunch of copies of “Every Time I Turn Around, I Bump into God!” and “Every Time I Turn Around, I Catch a Glimpse of God!” so we’re going to be blessing a bunch of folks with some great books!

And be sure to join us to continue the conversation off the air for a no host lunch at El Jarro’s Mexican restaurant from 12:30pm to 2:00pm! I’ll have my in studio guest with me and we’re looking forward to connecting with you in person!

Recap 10/19 – Louie Kaupp’s “The Last Dad” and Bethany Connor’s “Cherished”

Here’s the link to the podcast in case you missed this AWESOME show!

What an absolutely incredible show it was today! With guests like Pastor Louie Kaupp, author of “The Last Dad: Looking for Answers When the Dad Piece is Missing” and Bethany Connor, author of “Cherished: One Woman’s Journey to Love and Be Loved”…it couldn’t be anything BUT awesome.

Right before the show began, some water got knocked over on the table, drenching all of Louie’s notes. Knowing how much wisdom he has in the Lord, I told him, Louie…you don’t need those notes…just share from your heart! And that’s exactly what he did. Such great wisdom for single moms, those who minister to single moms, and really, any parent regardless of marital status…he was a wealth of inspiration and practical take away!

1377054_4988744571513_995635808_n

Then Bethany Connor shared some of the nuggets from her book that, honestly, were just plain game-changers. Such profound truths about living an authentic life, learning who we are, and where to place our hope. I came away filled to overflowing with encouragement!

The turnout at El Jarro’s afterwards was phenomenal…lots of new listeners showed up and there was great interaction and fellowship as we continued the conversation off the air.

Share this link on your social networks and encourage your friends to listen in…this truly was one of my all-time favorite shows!

Coming Up 10/19 – Louie Kaupp with Help for Single Moms and Bethany Connor on Seeing Ourselves with His Eyes

I am SO excited about this upcoming show! Pastor Louie Kaupp has become a dear friend after I had the privilege of coaching him through the publication of his book, “The Last Dad: Looking for Answers When the Dad Piece is Missing.” During the first half hour of the show he will share incredible insights for single moms and for those who minister to them. Each chapter of The Last Dad begins with a story about Mildred, a single mom, and her son Louie. The first dad abandoned them when Mildred was 7 ½ months pregnant. The second dad enforced his rules with a bullwhip. Mother and son spent years looking for the next dad. Finally, they discovered the best dad was there all of the time. He was the last dad they would ever need.  At the end of each chapter the grown-up Louie added Reflections, looking back at life lessons they learned. They are practical and scriptural. His deepest hope is that single moms everywhere will become better acquainted with the Last Dad and discover a few simple, life-changing truths. After Reflections he added Questions to Consider, hoping the questions would provoke you to thought, dialogue, prayer, and then, discovery.

bethany and louie

During the second half of the show I’ll have Bethany Connor in studio. As the author of “Cherished – One Woman’s Journey to Love and Be Loved,” Bethany has a deep passion: awakening authentic leaders. Through speaking, facilitating & coaching she supports the transformation process of individuals and organizations in creating culture change from the inside out. Bethany is a Lieutenant Colonel int he Army Nurse Corps and a Registered Nurse with an advanced degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She also serves as a certified coach, speaker and trainer for The John Maxwell Team. Her book, “Cherished” is her personal journey, but provides practical and useful direction towards discovering the unfathomable love God has for you.

Be sure to listen this Saturday, 10/19 from 11AM to Noon on AM 630 KSLR, or streaming live at www.kslr.com or www.iheartradio.com. And be sure to join us for a no-host lunch afterwards at El Jarro’s Mexican restaurant!

Recap 10/12 – Tammy Trent on Love, Loss & Restoration / Domestic Violence in the Church with Debbie Jansen & Darling Romo-Lopez

Here’s the link to the show in case you missed it!

What a powerful show of God’s faithfulness. First my interview with Tammy Trent was just amazing…her story so intense, so raw, and so full of emotion, yet laced with God’s redemption, restoration and faithfulness!

Then to follow that testimony with the issue of Domestic Violence in the church as a whole, and in San Antonio on a local level, was stunning. Such an important issue to address and realize it’s magnitude and the great need we have to reach out to those who are suffering silently with hope and encouragement, rather than sending them off with scriptures about submission.

Debbie Jansen shared her book “Scriptures Against Abuse”  which provides help for Christians who suffer from abuse. The author uses marriage to illustrate the problem of abuse, but the 150+ Scriptures prove that abuse in any form is not condoned by the Christian faith. This book can be used by pastors, counselors, teachers or social groups to provide encouragement to those who suffer from abuse. Scriptures Against Abuse contains a full study guide for small groups or classes. Debbie helped us see the epidemic of domestic violence and abuse in the church across the nation and how much we have been influenced by an argumentative and controlling atmosphere in society.

today

Then Darling Romo-Lopez, founder & president of The Pink Ring Club, brought it down to the local level. In-studio, my guest shared that San Antonio has the HIGHEST rate of domestic violence of any county in the entire United States of America. That was a huge shock to me and I’m sure any of our local listening audience. Darling is organizing the 2nd Annual FREE Workshop “Breaking the Cycle of Domestic Violence in our Community: A Call to Action” on Monday, October 28 at the TriPoint Event Center. From 6:00 to 9:00 PM she’ll have speakers including Judge Eugenia “Genie” Wright, Sheriff Susan Pamerleau, and the CEO of Family Violence Prevention Services Marta Pelaez. For more information about the event, email Darling at PinkRingClub@gmail.com.

Praise God for His faithfulness in raising up courageous women of God to shine the light on this issue and take action to make a difference!

Coming Up 10/12 – Tammy Trent – Her Story of Loss and God’s Faithfulness, Debbie Jansen & Darling Romo-Lopez on Fighting Domestic Violence

During the first half of the show, I’ll be playing an interview I had with singer/songwriter Tammy Trent when we were together at the International Christian Retail Show in June. She will be performing this weekend at the Women’s Conference at Christian Family Church, so this is great timing to share this powerful interview. She shared with me her story of incredible loss and how God was so faithful, so you won’t want to miss this show! I’ll also have 3 copies of the pre-release version of her new CD, Sunny Days, to give away to the first three callers!

Tammy returned in August with her highly anticipated studio release in almost 5 years and shines brighter than ever. “This musical offering has brought me to the most beautiful season yet on my personal journey from love to loss and into a deeper understanding of God’s faithful commitment to us through life’s growing moments.”

Her new album, SUNNY DAYS, is packed with strong infectious melodies and is lyrically covered with the promises of Hope.  Trent, who co-wrote 8 of the 10 songs says, “Although this is my sixth studio record, it’s the first album that I can truly say really captured everything that is soo important to me.  All these songs are my way of responding to God’s sustaining grace in my life.  I love to worship and feel captured by the Father when I just can’t seem to breathe on my own; I love to dance because it’s sooo freeing and injects soo much fun and joy into my life; and I’m still over the moon excited about sharing my faith and hope with those that feel like leaning in for a listen.”

Since 1995, Trent has been a familiar voice on Christian radio with a string of hits, including “Your Love Is 4 Always”, “It’s All About You”, “Run To The Cross”, “My Irreplaceabl”, and “Welcome Home”.  She stepped away from the spotlight in 2001 after the tragic death of her husband in a diving accident, returning as a featured speaker and performer at the Women of Faith conferences in 2003. Trent spent four years with Women of Faith and was also a featured speaker and performer on the organization’s “The Revolve Tour” for teen girls, for two years. Since that time Tammy has maintained a very busy touring schedule, speaking and singing at women’s events all over the world.

Tammy’s dedication to the ministry was recognized in November of 2009 & 2010 when the Christian Music Hall of Fame handed her the award for Inspirational Female Vocalist of the Year!

259She is also the author of Learning to Breathe AgainChoosing Life and Finding Hope After A Shattering Loss (W Publishing), Beyond The Sorrow: There’s Hope in the Promises of God (J. Countryman), and she co-penned the hilarious & brilliantly illustrated Children’s Potty Training book The Log Family: See You at the Beach (September Day) with her late husband Trent Lenderink who sadly never got to see his work completed.

Long time fans will hear what they’ve always loved about Tammy’s music: Contemporary Pop, danceable, memorable, straight-up songs full of Hope and Truth. Make room in your music department for this must-have album SUNNY DAYS from Tammy Trent today!

During my second half hour I’ll have author/speaker Debbie Jansen on the phone about her new book “Scriptures Against Abuse” and in studio Darling Romo-Lopez…a wife, mother, founder and president of The Pink Ring Club, and an tireless advocate in raising awareness and fighting against domestic violence. Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I though that would be a fitting topic to discuss. Believe me, there’s plenty of domestic violence occurring in Christian homes these days, so even if you aren’t a victim, chances are someone you know is suffering in silence.

Join us Saturday, October 12, from 11AM to Noon CST on AM 630 KSLR, on http://www.kslr.com or on http://www.iheartradio.com. And if you’re in the area, join Darling and I at El Jarro’s at 12:30 for a no host lunch as we “continue the conversation off the air!”

Recap 10/5 Women of Joy – The Waldreps – Next Year’s WOJ & Parenting Prodigals – Jill Kelly on Suffering & Salvation

It was a crazy hour trying to broadcast from the Women of Joy Convention from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center downtown San Antonio on the River Walk. Unfortunately, the phone line cut in and out during the entire show. Every conversation, with Debbie Waldrep, with Phil Waldrep and then with Jill Kelly, was so impactful, I am disappointed that the podcast can’t be shared. It would be frustrating for you to try to listen to it, as it was for me reviewing it.

Women of Joy 2014 for San Antonio will be September 12-14, so mark your calendar now and start saving your pennies (www.womenofjoy.org). Phil’s book entitled Parenting Prodigals was such an awesome topic…I just loved hearing the wisdom on false guilt and really how to love our prodigals with unconditional love. If you have a prodigal, don’t let the enemy lie to you that you aren’t fit to serve God. From all his research, Phil shared that it doesn’t matter if you were a perfect parent or a terrible parent, having a prodigal is not based on your performance as a parent. Case in point, if it’s always the parent’s fault, then God messed up with Adam and Eve, and Jesus messed up with Judas! So, don’t buy the false guilt that it’s YOUR fault that your prodigal walked away from God. How freeing it was to understand this!

Then Jill Kelly‘s time with me was so anointed…to hear her love for God and how she hungers and thirsts to walk in His presence, doing even greater things as He said we would…we talked about how sin almost destroyed her fairytale marriage, how her special needs son affected their lives in such a positive way, and how she learned to forgive her husband’s infidelity with the same kind of forgiveness Jesus experienced…what a powerful time it was with her.

1382897_223613774468589_1664977765_n1

My plan is to have both guests back on the show so you can hear their messages in full and be  blessed by the faithfulness of God through them.
